Work on upgrade projects will stop or be reduced to address congestion, improve safety and aid traffic flow through work sites from tomorrow evening.
Changes to major work on Princes Highway upgrade projects will include:
Berry to Bomaderry upgrade
All work on the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade will shut down from 6pm Thursday, December 17 to 7am Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
There will be no work carried out during this time and the speed limit of 80km/h throughout the work area will remain in place.
Albion Park Rail bypass
All work will shut down from 6pm Friday, December 18 to 7am Monday, January 4, 2021.
There will be no work carried out during this time and the speed limits of 80km/h at Yallah and 70km/h at Oak Flats will remain in place.
Nowra bridge project
All Nowra bridge work will shut down over the Christmas period, from 6am Friday, December 18 to 7am Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
There will be no work carried out during this time and the speed limit of 6 km/h throughout the work area will remain in place.
Princes Highway and Jervis Bay Road intersection
Between Friday, December 18 and Sunday, January 27, 2021, the speed limit through this section of the highway will be reduced to 80km/h for southbound motorists.
The speed limit may be reduced to 60km/h during peak travel times and traffic control staff will be onsite.
The NSW Government announced in November, after community lobbying over the intersection redesign, that a flyover would be put in place.
Princes Highway and Wason Street intersection (pedestrian crossing, Milton)
Traffic control staff will be on site between 9am and 3pm from Friday, December 18 to Thursday, December 24, Saturday, December 26 to Monday, January 4, 2021, the weekends of January 9-10 and January 16-17 2021, and Friday, January 22 to Wednesday, January 27, to manage the use of the pedestrian crossing at the Wason Street intersection to ensure pedestrian safety and maintain traffic flow on the highway.
Batemans Bay bridge replacement
There will be no traffic control or reduced speed limits at the Batemans Bay bridge replacement from 6am Friday, December 18 to 6am Tuesday, January 5, 2021.
The speed limit through the project area will be 60km/h and will extend to Berrima Parade, north Batemans Bay.
Traffic lights will be activated on the Kings Highway and Princes Highway roundabout at peak travel times, in response to congestion.
Traffic management plans will also be rolled out at pinch points along the Princes Highway to help ease congestion and improve road safety over the peak holiday period. These include:
Kings Highway and Princes Highway roundabout North Batemans Bay
A speed limit of 80km/h will be in place between the Kings Highway and Princes Highway roundabout at North Batemans Bay and The River Road at Nelligen from Friday, December 18 to Monday, January 4, 2021 and from Friday, January 22 to Wednesday, January 27 2021.
These changes aim to give visitors and locals a safer and smoother journey.
Increased traffic volumes are expected on the Princes Highway during the school holiday period.
