The man affectionately given the moniker "The Block of Cheese" by Immortal Andrew "Joey" Johns, premiership winning Melbourne Storm star, Brandon Smith made a visit to the South Coast.

Of all things to visit a dairy farm.

Cheese's forthright, openness and cheekiness has made him a strong fan favourite - probably just as much as his no nonsense style of play.

The young kiwi hooker, who has had to play second fiddle behind his Storm captain Cameron Smith, has built up a cult following.

Whether it's trading barbs with commentators after footy matches, jokingly saying he would have to "sell his premiership ring to pay for all the celebratory beers" he has hit a chord.

He's also proved a favourite on the popular podcast Bloke In A Bar by former Brisbane Broncos player Denan Kemp, the founder of Bloke In A Bar and host of The Locker Room.

Kemp put a call out for a location for a photo shoot for Cheese, with the specific call out for a dairy farm.

Enter Gerroa dairy farmer Paul Condon - well his daughter Molly actually.

The 15-year-old spotted the request on Instagram and suggested her father, who is a mad Sydney Roosters fan, should offer up the "family farm".

"Apparently they wanted a farm within an hour of Sydney," Mr Condon said.

"We made contact and the next we knew they came down for a photo shoot."

Cheese was paired with another league cult hero, Mark "Piggy" Riddell.

The Condon's stunning property, Sea Breeze, overlooks both beautiful Seven Mile Beach and has amazing views of the valley back into Gerringong.

"They were pretty impressed when they got here," Mr Condon said.

"I don't think they expected this kind of outlook, especially for a dairy farm."

The shoot took place just days after the Storms' 26-20 grand final win over Penrith.

"Both Brendon and Mark were really nice blokes," Mr Condon said.

"They were joined by Denan on the shoot. They were all really friendly.

"We picked out a few nice spots on the property for them, one, of course, overlooking Seven Mile Beach where we had a few quiet calves and a young bull and the guys were able to feed them hay and pose for photos.

"They were here for most of the day and were still here when it was milking time, so they joined me in the dairy pit.

"Brandon was really interested in the dairy, how we do things, where our milk goes etc."

He said the renowned "jokers shared banter throughout the day".

"Brandon's not as outgoing as you often see on his television interviews after games. He was quiet actually," he said.

Mr Condon, who is a keen listener of the Bloke in a Bar podcasts, had heard the episode with Brandon Smith.

"It's a fascinating story - originally from Waiheke Island, New Zealand, how he came to Australia as a teenager as his brother Dylan had an under 20s contract with the North Queensland Cowboys," he said.

Brandon was also in the Cowboys' Academy before an off-field incident saw them part ways.

He then moved to Brisbane, playing with Wynnum Manly in the Mal Meninga Cup, where in seven games as hooker, where he used to play lock at school, he was the competition's top try scorer and named Player of the Year.

The Cowboys again came knocking again and he signed a under 20s contract, playing in the National Youth Competition for two seasons.

In 2016, the Storm came calling with a three-year contract - the chance to play with Cam Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater.

"They were both very easy going blokes and good fun," Mr Condon said.

"It was an interesting day and one we'll look back on fondly."

Bloke In A Bar operations manager Dennis Keane said Brandon Smith is one of the many great characters they have featured this year.

"It's been a big year both for the podcast and the beer itself," he said.

"We have sold 750,000 cans of Bloke.

"The community and the players have really embraced us which is fantastic.

"Denan, as a former NRL player himself, knows a lot of the boys and the NRL community always likes to help each other. That's what a community is about."

Bloke Beer is available in local independent shops, with store locations available on the Bloke In A Bar Instagram page.

"We are now in three states, Victoria, NSW and Queensland and we are looking to expand further," Mr Keane said.

"Locally it's available at Cronin's Liquor and IGA Nowra, who have both been great supporters.

"It was a great day at Gerroa, Paul was fantastic and showed us all around.

"Mind you it was a pretty quiet trip down. I picked Cheese up from Matty Johns' place and all he did on the way down was sleep - I think he might have been making up for some lost time."
