But when the Bearded Villains arrived at South East Women and Children's Services in Bega on Saturday, manager Caroline Long said it was a lovely, life-affirming visit.

The Bearded Villains is a global fraternity of bearded blokes dedicated to loyalty, respect, charity and kindness.

At the weekend, members of the NSW chapter brought with them a treasure trove of toys, clothes and non-perishable food items for SEWACS to distribute to clients for Christmas.

Ms Long said they donated a huge haul of toys, Lego sets, soccer balls, clothes for little kids, vouchers and bluetooth headphones for older ones, backpacks and teddy bears, too much to list.

"It came a bit out of left field," Ms Long said.

"It was a little bit overwhelming [with everything they donated], but it was life-affirming that there are good people in the world doing good things for others.

"I feel very fortunate that they selected us. And what we can't distribute ourselves we'll share with other local services too.

"This was such a lovely thing to do and will make such a difference to the people we support. It's been a rough year for all of us. This may help make a difference."

Co-captain of the Bearded Villains NSW chapter Brook Noden said the money they raise for charity is sourced through merchandise sales.

He said the global fraternity actually started in Los Angeles in 2014 as a "cool T-shirt company" and grew from there.

He said there are now 165 chapters in 120 countries, including four across Australia.

For this Christmas the NSW chapter made nearly $3800 selling branded patches and split that between SEWACS and a similar organisation in Port Macquarie.

"People hear 'Bearded Villains' and ask if we're bikies and assume the stigma that's attached - but that's why the name is that. To show we're into charities," Mr Noden said.

"We're on the streets handing out food and bottled water to homeless people and we're right behind the services helping with domestic violence and homelessness."

Among the first major fundraising activities by the Bearded Villains for the Bega Valley was a donation of iPads and toys for the SERH children's ward in January 2019. They have also donated money to Pearl's Place.
