At Keith Grey Oval, the Marlins won the toss and elected to bat first in the Thunder Pool clash.
Flynn Dunn (23 not out) was the lone Marlins to reach double-figures, as the visitors were all out for 57 in the 28th over.
Harrison Deck spearheaded the hosts' attack with 3-7, while Sam Harwood (3-18) also finished with three wickets - as Cooper Garrard claimed 2-8.
In reply, the Highlanders reached the target (7-58) in the 24th over, with Harwood top-scoring with 19.
Jaycob Constantinou did all he could for the Marlins, taking 4-17 from his seven overs.
Next Sunday, the Highlanders will play the ACT/Southern Districts Barons at Victoria Park, while the Marlins face the ACT/SD Kings at Reid Turf Oval.
