At the ordinary meeting on Tuesday, November 24 councillors were asked to consider a confidential report on the possible acquisition of a property at Manyana.
As the report was confidential, proceedings and debate were closed to the public.
Following the closed debate, Shoalhaven City Council CEO Stephen Dunshea reported back the outcome.
"Council resolved to write to the Department of Planning Industry and Environment advising that Shoalhaven City Council has no funds to contribute to the Manyana residential subdivision acquisition," Mr Dunshea said.
The issue follows a strong campaign led community based group Manyana Matters aimed at saving one of the last unburnt sections of bush in the Shoalhaven from being developed.
The Manyana Matters group have been pushing for the State Government to buy the land and save it from development. The land is owned by Ozy Homes who plan to build 180 homes.
In September, Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley withdrew a motion on the buy-back of land at Manyana having feared the Shoalhaven Independents voting bloc would render it useless.
