The Shoalhaven Education Fund will hold a Monster Second Hand Book sale from 4-6 December at the Uniting Church Hall in Albert Street, Berry. Since 2012, the SEF has raised more than $170,000 which it has awarded to more than 160 Shoalhaven young people. The funds are used to help them with their costs of post-school University, TAFE, apprenticeships, vocational training or entry level employment. All funds come from the community, including local businesses, community groups and individuals, and the SEF is entirely run by volunteers. This year has been a particularly difficult one for fundraising, with the SEF not able to run its usual fundraising activities due to the bushfires and COVID. "Many of our local young people have lost their casual jobs, been unable to continue with their studies in person, and in some cases lost their homes, so the need is greater than ever," SEF Chair Linda Marquis said The SEF would love people to come to the bookstall, bringing their own bag. The bookstall will be open from 9am - 4pm each day, with all books priced between $3-$5. On Sunday from 2pm customers can fill a bag for $20. There's a great range of fiction and non-fiction, biographies, cooking and gardening and children's' and young adults' books. All enquiries to Sophie Ray, SEF committee member: 0414 379 059 or sophiecmray@gmail.com
