A preview single from Jason Lee's album, 'Whiskey Kinda Night' was released recently.
The song tells the story of a heart-crushing break-up and the emotional fallout that follows when reality sets in, but you're not yet ready to pick up the pieces.
"It's that point in a break-up that you realise it's really over. When you look back at all the effort and love you put into the relationship, realising that they didn't want the same," Jason said.
Jason found himself battling his own emotions when laying down the vocal tracks for Whiskey Kinda Night.
"I found it hard building the energy in Whiskey Kinda Night and recording the vocal track as I kept getting upset and tearing up while performing it, which made it very hard to commit to a strong vocal," he said.
"It took me a few, good takes before we nailed the vocal. When you listen to the track it is clear by the emotion in my vocals that this was the take where I held it together the best."
Scenestr premiered Whiskey Kinda Night today on November 13.
He's also supported country music heavyweights Adam Harvey, Beccy Cole, Travis Collins and The McClymonts.
Recorded at Hillbilly Hut Studios with Simon Johnson, and produced by Johnson and Lee, Whiskey Kinda Night follows Jason's previous single, 'She's In It' that scored airplay nationally.
"I'm very grateful to have a good, solid producer behind me like Simon when in a studio session as there is 100 per cent support when needed," Jason said.
"When recording vocals or producing a record there is an element of trust, and I got this from Simon Johnson on all occasions."
