Holocaust is what it was
I believe that Councillor Levett was well within their rights to address the recent fires as a holocaust.

The devastation that it caused to animals, their habitat, and humans alike warrant such a word to be used. As stated in the dictionary devastation on a mass scale, this is an accurate description. No word in the English language is solely used to describe only one situation.

Philippines needs your help
Typhoon Goni, known locally as Rolly, hit land with 225km/h (140mph) winds and torrential rainfall - ripping off roofs, taking out power and damaging buildings. It's the most powerful storm to hit the country since Haiyan in 2013.
Many thousands were evacuated before the storm hit but the process was complicated by the coronavirus. Families now face the double threat of having nowhere to live other than over-crowded evacuation centres, whilst also trying to protect themselves from the deadly virus.
Early reports suggest that 90% of homes have been destroyed in the town first hit by the storm.
We have a strong in-country presence and aid stored locally. We are working with local contacts and Rotarians to understand how we can help. Rotary in the Philippines play a key part in our work in the country.
Electricity, phone and water are cut off across the affected area, making information gathering more difficult.
The Philippines has one of the worst coronavirus infection rates in Southeast Asia. This latest disaster will make conditions significantly worse for millions of people.
We are also monitoring another storm, Astani (Siony), due to make landfall on Thursday 5th November.
Please donate today to support families in need in the Philippines: https://www.shelterboxaustralia.org.au/donate/ .
Many thanks for your support.

Wage freeze will hurt economy
The NSW Government is the nation's largest employer, responsible for one in ten jobs across NSW. If it won't invest in wage rises how will we ever stoke the economic demand needed to get this State moving?
The State Government is poking in the eye the very paramedics, nurses, cleaners, police and teachers who put their health on the line to get us through the pandemic. These people sacrificed their own well-being for the public, but now they are being told their contribution is not worthwhile.
The Premier and Treasurer are locking a low wage, low growth, low skill future for this State. THis will create a skills drain to other states and frustrate our capacity to build a bigger economy.
A modest wage rise to a prison officer, cleaner or a firefighter will be spent in the real economy, and circulate among local cafes, pubs, grocery stores and other small businesses. The Liberals want to give handouts to high income earners, which will just get saved or invested in the stock market.
One in five young people In south west Sydney are now jobless and the situation is not much better across large swathes of regional NSW. But today the Liberals have confirmed they would prefer to throttle the economic recovery than boost jobs and growth.
The Treasurer's conduct is an absolute mess. He is embroiled in scandal and mismanagement within his portfolio and now he wants to strangle wage growth further.

Closure fuels insecurity
Last week BP closed Western Australia's only oil terminal, 600 jobs gone and fuel security threatened by mega refineries in Asia. Free Rolex watch and a trip in "Shark 1" (Scomos Prime Ministers jet) to the first politician who has the courage to guarantee our fuel security.
