A gala day in Batemans Bay on Saturday drew in returning clubs and impressive exposure for the format despite a smattering of showers.
"A storm came through, but beyond that it was all good," South Coast Rugby president Peter Ryan said.
Both the Bungendore Mudchooks and the reformed Bermagui-Cobargo Sharks won both their clashes on the day, with the Sharks presented the Shield on for and against.
"We won both our games and brought home the Shield after a count-back on the points for and against, Go the Sharks," club officials shared on social media.
"We are all very proud of all the players, we thank all you guys for dedicating todays games to the memory of Patrick and Robert Salway.
"Renee and Janelle and all the Salway familly members were also very proud of what you guys did today."
Mr Ryan congratulated the Sharks and said it was wonderful to see teams able to generate playing numbers so quickly.
The Vincentia Van Goghs also pulled together numbers in quick order, but could not make play on Saturday.
"The background to the gala day was that South Coast rugby has suffered over the years and the couple of remaining teams have been playing in the South Coast-Monaro comp, so the idea was to host some gala days and maybe see some of the South Coast clubs reform," Mr Ryan said.
He said the combined competition provided excellent play for the clubs involved, but travel was immense and he hoped to see the reformation of a standalone coastal draw.
And signs are promising with the response to the opening gala already enormous and Mr Ryan said the event had already spurred interest from other areas including Bega, Narooma and Milton.
"We really had no idea if any new interest would be developed from the day, but it showed a lot of potential and I'm very excited that we may get the South Coast established again."
"It's exciting times, if we can get some wins on the board for the Wallabies that might give us a boost too," he said.
The Sharks will join Broulee and Batemans Bay for further games this weekend, while Mr Ryan said organisers are hoping to host a series of gala days in March next year.
"We're planning a series of carnivals early next year," he said. "Potentially four straight carnivals in March next year to help these teams get up and running."
