At Ron Costello Oval, the Eagles took just nine minutes to open the scoring.
A sweeping move to the left saw Alanna Smith step through the Lions' defence before drawing Gerringong fullback Carly Abbott and sending teammate Brittany Constable over.
Vanessa Grady then added the extras and the Eagles led 6-nil.
Minutes before half-time, the Lions, in just their second season in the competition, got on the board through a charging run by Samantha Tiyce - who stepped three Eagles' defenders before racing to the try-line.
Lions' Sophie Taylor failed to convert, which saw the two sides head into half-time at 6-4 to the Eagles.
In the second half, the rain started to fall heavily, which hampered both team's expansive nature with the ball.
But that didn't limit both teams from trying to add to the scoreboard and secure victory for their club.
In the 30th minute, Lions' Cassidy Morris evaded three defenders and raced down the short side, only for fullback Alyssa O'Sullivan to tag her metres out from the try-line.
Then in the 48th minute, the Park, despite having Kaarla Cowan in the sin-bin, went close to sealing the game when Victoria Barham broke through, only for Abbott to athletically tag the Eagles flyer with one hand.
But it didn't matter, as the Eagles held on for the two-point victory - with Alanna Smith being named player of the match.
