Graham Smith was at South Nowra Correctional Centre serving a ten-year sentence for manslaughter when he was caught with the contraband items. He has already served the minimum non-parole period for the original offence.
Smith elected not to have legal representation for the contraband charge.
"I won't waste the court's time, I'll plead guilty," Smith said via audio-visual link.
Police said on July 25 Smith dropped an item, which was found by Corrective Services officers to be a mobile phone.
He then told Corrective Services officers that he also had "bupe" in his possession. Officers located several small orange strips of the drug hidden in the lining of Smith's clothing.
However, the magistrate found he had no jurisdiction to sentence Smith, as Smith had been charged under jail discipline regulations.
