I was sitting in my palatial office pondering what to write about in the next Pulitzer prize winning "On The Beat" when I was suddenly hit by an epiphany.
There are many older citizens in the community that may feel isolated or are a bit reclusive.
These people are our neighbours, relatives and friends.
Please keep an eye on our elderly. If they need a hand, give it. If they ask for help, please provide it.
Get to know your elderly neighbour, have a chat over the fence or over a coffee.
Remember, while you are out at work, your neighbour is probably home.
The more surveillance a location has makes it a lot harder for the crooks to get about unnoticed.
My neighbour is 21-years-old for about the fourth time and she feeds my cat if required, brings the bins in so they won't blow over and collects items that are delivered and left outside and also provides passive surveillance around my property.
Not everyone has a neighbour like mine, but nearly everyone has a neighbour.
Get to know them, just don't overwork them.
Scams again - Yes, I know that I have been going on and on about scams lately, however they keep coming so I keep going on about them.
If anyone rings you, either a real person or a robot voice or a real person with a robot voice telling you that if you don't ring a certain phone number straight away you will be arrested and charged with tax fraud, hang up.
A complaint locally was received this week.
Don't be inquisitive and ring the number. Hang up. hang up, hang up, hang up.
Please take heed. The scamming will continue while there are people falling for it.
Remember you can Dob in a Druggie any time you like by contacting Nowra Police or ringing Crime Stoppers. Do not drink and drive. As always, in case of an emergency call 000.
