On the back of the recommendations of NSW Health's chief health officer Kerry Chant, Cricket NSW has issued guidelines to minimise the risk of transmission in community sports.
"These updated recommendations aim to help the NSW government achieve no community transmission in the state and will support community sports to continue operating safely," Chant said in a statement.
"They also acknowledge the critical situation that currently exists in NSW regarding COVID-19, preventing further transmission of the virus and in protecting our community."
As a result, Cricket NSW recommends all community competitions, associations and clubs pause on all non-professional cricket activity that brings people from different regions together, including training and playing, in order that the guidelines of NSW Health be followed.
To stick with these guidelines, new Shoalhaven District Cricket Association president Lisa Kennedy confirmed they had postponed all junior representative trials scheduled for Sunday at Ulladulla's Lighthouse Oval.
- Encourage all community competitions to remain positive and continue to plan for the season ahead.
- Encourage all community competitions to aim for competitions to commence as planned, but no earlier than October.
- Encourage all community competitions to prioritise the playing of 'one day' cricket this season to allow the commencement and completion of games within a single day. This will avoid potential 'no results' or issues with player availability or substitutions if community sport is disrupted during the season due to COVID-19.
- Encourage community competitions to fixture neighbouring teams to play each other in the early rounds, that way, if this NSW Health recommendation is extended beyond its current timeline, local teams may still be able to play within these recommendations and not affect the competition's commencement.
- Encourage associations and clubs to reach out to your local Cricket NSW staff if you need assistance, advice or support in getting your competition up and running.
Cricket NSW will also pause all training and playing of their non-professional managed competitions and programs that brings people from different regions together until further notice.
"Cricket NSW continues to plan for a number of competitions and programs which are now impacted by current advice," a CNSW spokesperson said.
"At this stage, we are unable to provide our communities definitive details, dates or venues, but will do so as soon as they are available.
"We thank all those involved for their patience."
Those competitions and programs include:
- Plan B Regional Bash
- Women's Regional Bash
- Metro Youth Championships
- Country Youth Championships
- Metropolitan and Regional CNSW Pathway and Academy programs
"Cricket NSW is driven and focused in getting cricket underway this season," a CNSW spokesperson said.
"We are excited about seeing our communities back on the field of play, but we must do so within the parameters and advice of government and health advice for your safety, and that of the wider community.
"COVID-19 guidelines may create additional burdens on our volunteers, and we want to reassure you we will continue to be here for you and all our cricket communities."
