After Anzac Day being cancelled due to COVID-19 it has been one of the very few commemoration services to be held.
An extremely short service was held on Saturday, August 15 to mark the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Pacific, VP Day, in Nowra.
At Bomaderry's Walsh Park on Tuesday, August 18, a small crowd attended an emotional service to mark the 54th anniversary the Battle of Long Tan.
The ceremony which observed the strict COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines was attended by a smaller than usual crowd.
Shoalhaven Vietnam Veterans' Association president Clyde Poulton led the service which included a number of prayers and the laying of wreaths.
Mr Poulton gave the address, which this year reflected on the recent posthumous awarding of the Victoria Cross, Australia's highest military honour to Teddy Sheean.
A World War II seaman, Sheean died in 1942 when the HMAS Armidale was sunk by Japanese bombers in the Timor Sea.
The 18-year-old strapped himself to an anti-aircraft gun and fired at enemy planes as the ship went down.
He is credited with saving the lives of 49 crewmates.
A special guest at the ceremony was former US Vietnam War correspondent Carl Robinson.
