The Stallions placed the Wolves, featuring Milton-Ulladulla's Chris Price, under constant pressure and ultimately reaped the rewards in recording a 1-nil win, Wollongong turning the ball over in their defensive half on a number of occasions.
Eventually the Stallions made their opponents pay, with Anthony Frangie scoring in the 71st minute on the back of a Nick Littler error.
The Wolves had a number of opportunities to level the scores late in the affair, however the visitors held firm to secure a 1-nil win.
"We didn't play to our level," Wilkshire said. "We got bullied out of the game and ultimately got what we deserved.
"We knew what to expect, I don't think it should've been a surprise. Maybe a few of the younger boys weren't prepared, but that's no excuse, we have to learn to deal with that."
The loss was the Wolves first of the relaunched season, with the team having previously defeated Mt Druitt and APIA Leichhardt.
While those two matches were games Wollongong dominated, Sunday's affair was in stark contrast.
This week it was Marconi who had the better of the chances, with the visitors threatening to break through on a number of occasions.
Wilkshire is not panicking, however he knows an immediate turnaround in attitude is required.
"We had chances and had some good play, but we weren't desperate enough. We weren't ruthless enough."
