"Blazes came close to the prison yet staff showed the utmost professionalism, even when their own families and properties were at risk," Mr Roberts said.
"Several South Coast officers were on the frontline fighting the fires as volunteers - your efforts have not been forgotten."
Ten staff from Corrective Services Industries received Assistant Commissioner's Commendations for keeping essential services operational under extreme conditions.
Another 367 staff received certificates of appreciation.
Eleven officers also received bravery awards at the event for their outstanding management of an inmate hostage situation on October 10 last year.
Commissioner Peter Severin said officers showed exceptional leadership, communication and collaboration under extreme duress.
"MOS Bramble was instrumental in leading the response, attempting to negotiate a peaceful resolution with the hostage taker while initiating an immediate action plan to resolve the situation as swiftly and safely as possible," Mr Severin said.
Staff at Nowra and Batemans Bay Community Corrections were also thanked for their tireless work during the bushfire season.
