A spokesperson for Endeavour Energy said Shoalhaven was the worst affected area, with wild weather bringing down trees and powerlines in many locations.
"The damaging winds are forecast to continue until tomorrow and further damage and customer outages can be expected," the spokesperson said.
"More than 200 electrical hazards on the Endeavour Energy network have been reported since this morning. Unfortunately this means that some customers will be without power overnight due to the scale of the damage, ongoing bad weather and road closures from flooding.
"Customers currently without power should make suitable arrangements based on their individual needs and circumstances.
"Additional crews from the Illawarra and Western Sydney are being sent to the Shoalhaven region to help restore power supply to customers as quickly as possible."
Affected customers have been sent SMS messages with safety information and power updates.
