The Eagles were successful with a competition assistance application to the AFLW list committee to help deliver upon their football strategy.

Fellow expansion team Richmond will also receive a pick, 15th overall, one spot ahead of West Coast's selection at number 16.

The assistance picks must be on-traded to bring in ready-made talent.

The Eagles can combine the pick with other selections and/or players to bring in a player, however the selection cannot be used in a scenario that brings another selection back to the club.

"Based on the inaugural season we had and challenges faced as an expansion team we applied to the AFL for assistance heading into our second season in the AFLW competition," West Coast's head of female football Adam Selwood said.

"The end of first round draft selection we have received provides us with the opportunity to bring in an experienced player who can build on the talent we already have and help us become even more competitive heading towards an exciting 2021 campaign."

The AFLW list committee, led by Andrew Dillon (AFL general counsel) and Steve Hocking (AFL general manager football operations), said the assistance would provide additional support after the Eagles tasted victory once with a maiden win against the Western Bulldogs while Richmond went winless from six games.

"After a detailed assessment of the list challenges facing the two clubs, their opportunities for improvement and an examination of how their respective issues can be addressed, the decision was made to provide special assistance," Dillon said.

"There is no doubt both clubs had challenges building a competitive list in the first year of participation in the competition and it is to the benefit of the entire competition that they are competitive.

"AFLW fans want a strong and even competition, and while the endeavour and intent can't be faulted by either club, there have been list build challenges that have impacted the on-field competitiveness of each team."

West Coast currently holds picks two, 16, 18 and 32 in the draft.

The AFLW sign and trade period begins on August 3, with clubs permitted to sign up to 27 players, including rookies.
