Wollongong and Shellharbour get the chance to take part in a final chapter of aviation history on Wednesday when the Queen of the Skies makes its last flight.

The final Qantas B747-400ER flight is due to depart Sydney on Wednesday at 2pm. Allowing taxi time to the end of the runway and air clearances VH-OEJ should take off by 2.15pm.
Historical Aircraft Restoration Society president Bob De La Hunty said it will take only 11 minutes for the Jumbo to fly from Sydney which should put the aircraft over HARS before 2.30pm.
To mark the historic last flight of a Qantas 747 the airline decided to overfly of Shellharbour Airport at 1500 feet to salute the first Qantas B747-400 (VH-OJA) before setting course to VH-OEJ's final destination in the USA.
Enroute to Los Angeles it will head south after take off from Sydney and fly past Stanwell Park at 3000 feet about two to three nautical miles off the coastline.
It will descend to 1500 feet and overfly Port Kembla, Dapto and Shellharbour Airport before making a left turn and departing to the north-east for the long journey across the Pacific.
A temporary restricted area is likely to be in place for the fly over to mitigate any risk associated with turbulence from a B747 operating at such a low-level.
HARS will be the best location to give the last 747 a send off with tours being conducted of the first Jumbo in the fleet before the last Qantas 747 takes to the skies for the final time.
But those wanting to watch the fly over from in front of the main hanger will need to get there early as numbers will be limited to abide by COVID-19 social distancing regulations.
