Following their season opener, the Thunder will host the Perth Scorchers at the Sydney Showground on December 8 - marking their first home fixture of season 10.
Twenty-year-old Gilkes, in his third campaign with the chartreuse yellow and black, and his side will then play the Strikers (Adelaide Oval December 18) and Hurricanes (home on December 20) - before three straight games away from Sydney against the Heat (January 1), Stars (January 3) and Renegades (January 5).
They then host cross-town rivals the Sixers on January 9, followed by games with Heat (January 13), Hurricanes (January 17), Renegades (January 20), Scorchers (January 23) and Sixers (January 25) - before the finals begin.
Thunder captain Callum Ferguson hopes the announcement will go some way towards lifting the spirits of cricket fans after what has been a challenging year.
"It makes the next few months a little bit more exciting," said Ferguson in a statement.
"We've been training for a while with our home states but not really knowing what the summer will look like.
"I can't wait to get back into it with the Thunder guys and continue the momentum we had at the end of last season.
"I hope that the fans will be looking forward to the season as much as we are.
"It's been a really tough time for a lot of people so hopefully it gives our fans something to look forward to and get excited about."
