But instead of letting it weigh them down, the Bomaderry Tigers premier division women's side are using it as fuel, as they attempt to qualify for their third straight decider.
Their first casualty on Saturday was the Kiama Power, who they defeated 5.11-41 to 3.3-21.
In the 20-point win, Nikki Murray kicked three goals for the hosts, while Tiffany Weynberg and Katie Sargent both booted majors.
Other standouts for Geoff Gibbs' side were Rhi Nelson, Grace Hughes, India Patmore and Brooke Swankie.
Elsewhere in women's premier round one results, Wollongong Lions smashed Northern Districts, as the Bulldogs and Saints match was called off amid COVID-19 fears.
Unfortunately, this was the only time the Tigers tasted success on Saturday, with both their men's sides losing.
Their premier men's outfit, coached by Matthew Barnes, went down 7.19-61 to 3.1-19.
In the loss, Justin Weller (two) and Blake Munilla kicked goals, while their standouts included club debutant Alex Whitehall, Adriaan Toms, James Phillips, Tom Nicholls, Matt Lawrence and Rhys Arnold.
Elsewhere, Figtree thumped the Lions by 76 points - administering some revenge for last year's grand final loss and Norths downed Shellharbour by 63 points.
Earlier in the day, Bomaderry's division one men's side lost to Kiama by 28 points - a grade which also saw Nowra-Albatross, Port Kembla and Figtree record strong round one wins.
