That was no more evident than on Sunday when his two assists helped St George Illawarra defeat Manly-Warringah 34-4 on Sunday.
It was arguably the Dragons' best performance in 2020.
"I knew coming into grade, I'd gradually build confidence each week and my focus has been improving every time I step onto the field," the Albion Park-Oak Flats product said.
"It obviously makes it easier to produce individually when the whole team is clicking.
"Hopefully we can take another step in the right direction this week."
The Red V will be looking to chalk up win number four at WIN Stadium on Saturday against the Bulldogs.
The 25-year-old halfback knows his halves partnership with Corey Norman will be crucial.
"Both Normy [Corey Norman] and I appreciate it takes time to build strong partnerships," Clune said.
"We have honest discussions with each other during the week and give each other feedback, which has been really good for my growth.
"We also have regular chats with the whole spine (Ben Hunt, Cam McInnes and Matt Dufty) to keep our connection as strong as it can be.
"Little plays like that try I set up for Normy on Sunday show we are one the same page and starting to understand each other's games really well."
Although Saturday's opponents are going through a tough time at the moment, seeing them part ways with coach Dean Pay this week, Clune is wary to underestimate the Bulldogs - a side he made his debut against.
"We've seen numerous times of the years how hungry teams, are after losing their coach, are to bounce back and prove their worth," said Clune - who explained he'd be willing to do whatever it takes, including moving to a Queensland hub, to keep the season going.
"Despite everything that is going on, I know they'll be keen to get a win on Saturday, especially as they've already got one up on us this season.
"I learnt a lot during that loss to the Bulldogs and am determined to put in an improved performance this week.
"We definitely won't be going in complacent and are expecting nothing short of a gritty Bulldogs outfit."
