Fire and Rescue NSW Shoalhaven and Nowra crews were called to the complex around 1.30pm after a strong odour of some sort of gas was detected.
It is understood some sort of building work was being carried it at the location.
Fire crews are currently conducting gas detection and investigations.
The FRNSW Hazmat Unit from Shellharbour is on it was.
The Harvey Norman Complex has been evacuated.
NSW Police are also on the scene and along with Harvey Norman staff are attempting to move people away from the area.
