Police have confirmed the 36-year-old, who was driving a Hyundai van involved in the crash with a B-double truck, was from Wandandian.
Emergency services were called to the accident about one kilometre south of the Bewong Roadhouse around 3.30am.
The truck carrying an asphalt removal machine rolled, coming to rest on its side, with the two vehicles ending up about 100 metres apart.
The driver of the van died at the scene.
The driver of the truck was not injured but was taken to Shoalhaven District Hospital to undergo mandatory tests.
The Princes Highway was closed for several hours as crash investigators pieced together the cause of the accident.
A number of diversions were put in place, with the highway reopened, albeit to single lane traffic just before 10am with an alternating stop/slow traffic contra-flow in place.
The highway was closed again intermittently as a crane was used to receiver the overturned truck.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
