We were there to stand up to protect jobs at the Shoalhaven campus.
Some long-term staff have already been advised their jobs will end in one month.
We need jobs in the Shoalhaven. We need good education in the Shoalhaven and we need students to be supported so their uni studies are successful.
These student support jobs are some of the jobs that are going.
Once you lose courses and staff there is potential to cut back the campuses.
There are small UOW campuses in Batemans Bay, Bega, Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven, areas where we need to retain quality tertiary education.
Unions Shoalhaven wants vice chancellors and the government to adequately fund teaching positions and have more tertiary staff who are permanent employees as opposed to casuals.

Nowra arch boathouse loss
Demolition of this piece of history and excellent example of mid 20th century architecture and concrete technology would be a sad loss for Nowra.
An independent structural assessment must be carried out,
I am an architect and cannot accept that a well designed braced timber diaphragm support frame could readily support this lightweight, quite beautiful shelter
Council must surely commission an independent heritage and structural report immediately.

Build a replica elsewhere
Oh come on, it wouldn't be that hard to build a replica somewhere more appropriate that would look better, using the crushed up rubble from this one, or even a more modern interpretation of the same that would look brilliant.
It looks good, but not there. It could be done a lot better. I hope they do.
Many structures like that have disappeared over the years. Make an interpretation of it with transparent elements and turn it into a fountain.

Decisions are killing Nowra
Why could the bridge not go further down river over the top of Pig Island? Every other town has a bypass but we are putting it through the middle of town.
We don't have the shopping facilities, we have so many empty shops and nowhere to buy anything. All our plant nurseries have closed.
Houses are being pulled down for the new bridge and in Nowra you have pulled down the most beautiful trees.
You, the council, have no idea how much you are killing Nowra. How is this going to help the traffic on Illaroo Road?
And down at Basin View turn-off you are going to put in a roundabout.
Would it not make more sense to put in a overhead bridge and merge back in on the highway?
A roundabout is going to make more congestion.

Don't risk a new lockdown
The answer is we all do. It has already started, people in some shops standing right next to other people and openly coughing, brushing past you with their trolley,s etc.
People, don't park your common sense at the door - keep social distancing.
Shop owners need to be aware of what is going on and use staff/security to enforce distancing as they too have a responsibility.
If you/we do not take responsibility we could all be back in lockdown sooner rather than later.
