A council spokesperson said work to remove the trees on the western side of Berry Street between Junction Street and Worrigee Street would begin shortly.
"Council have had to make the decision to remove the trees upon the discovery that the root system is too shallow and large to be compatible with an urban streetscape," they said.
"Further to this, the tree roots have also caused significant damage to the footpath and underground services."
The spokesperson said the trees would be replaced with ornamental pear trees, which would have tree management system to prevent them causing damage to infrastructure.
They thanked the community's patience with disruptions during the upgrade.
