As Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild soundtrack blares out in the background, the usually well-presented staff, don overalls to get down and dirty, in of all things, a motor mechanic's garage, to promote that Haynes AllAccess Motor Manuals which are now available free online through the libraries.

And in today's world where everything is serious about the threat of coronavirus, it's nice to see a little bit of light and some fun. (yes it was filmed way before the shutdown and social distancing requirements).

The girls from Nowra Library made a video with the guys from CBD Exhaust and Mechanical Repairs (the garage next to the library) to promote that Haynes motor manuals which are now available free online, with hundreds of car and motorcycle repair manuals available on your computer or mobile device, at your fingertips in an instant.

Of course, it's not the first time the team at Shoalhaven Libraries have taken to the umm "small screen".

In September 2015 they almost sent YouTube into meltdown when they performed Librarians Rhapsody, taking off Queen's famous Bohemian Rhapsody.

They followed it up in December that year with a Booky Christmas.

Get Your Motor Runnin' - Shoalhaven Libraries has been live on YouTube since March 26, and so far has more than 650 views.

Library outreach and digital resource manager Robin Sharpe said it was a fun way to promote the new service.

"Lots of people have asked since Librarians Rhapsody when's the next one," she said.

"We just thought with the motoring repair manuals coming online it would be a fun promotion and with the guys from CBD Exhaust and Mechanical Repairs right next door, we thought what better way to promote it than getting the librarians into the workshop?

"We chatted to the guys there and they were up for it. We got a beautiful old car, they gave us access to their workshop and even taught us how to use some of the tools.

"They loved it and in the end, we got a great production out of it and all had a lot of fun.

"It was actually great to be able to connect with a local business."

She said there were no qualms when the suggestion was made for the librarians "hit the workshop"

"We already know the ladies are rock goddesses, why not push it further," she laughed.

"They just wanted to mix the pearls and the twin sets with overalls and cool Top Gun like aviator sunnies.

"We just really had some fun in the shoot which took about half a day to complete. It.was also a way to promote the many other digital resources we have available at the library, especially in these extreme times.

"Hey, if we have to go into total lockdown, we could always perhaps fall back on our acting skills or even start up a career working on cars - we're multi-skilled now!"

While the Shoalhaven Library in Berry Street, Nowra is actually closed to the public during the coronavirus emergency, Ms Sharpe said there has been a huge increase in the use of its online digital resources.

"We've had a huge increase in usage of our audiobooks, e-books and our magazines and films streaming," she said.

"It goes to show people are using digital resources more than ever and the library is still here for them."

And while the physical library may be closed, mobile services are continuing with an eye to possibly expand to help cater for other housebound people or those extremely isolated who don't have an internet connection.

And for all you fans of the librarians don't despair - this will not be the last you see of the talented "performers".

"We have a huge collection of digital resources, you never know where we might pop up next," Ms Sharpe said.

"We have no shortage of material, it's really only the time and imagination."

She also encouraged everyone to go on the library's website and check out the many available resources.

"The digital library is always open," she said.
