An 80-year-old man will reappear in court today charged following an investigation into alleged child sex offences involving four young children in the Illawarra region, NSW Police say.

In a statement, police said detectives began to investigate the man in February, following reports four young children had been procured for sexual activity by a man who was known to them.
"Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested an 80-year-old man at a home in the Illawarra region about 10am on Thursday 12 March 2020," police said.

"He was taken to Nowra Police Station and charged with four counts of procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, intentionally sexually touch child (between 10 and 16 years) and detention application notice after breach.
"Police will allege in court that the man procured two boys - aged six and eight - and two girls - aged 10 and 11 - in January 2020."
The man appeared at Nowra Local Court on Thursday, March 12 where he was granted strict conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Friday March 27.
