Shoalhaven Zoo has made the difficult decision to close its gates amid the coronavirus outbreak.
After new shutdown measures were introduced on Wednesday, March 24 the zoo was ordered to close.
Previously, the North Nowra zoo was following government guidelines and remained open.
"While we are closed to the public, we as a family will continue to live onsite and have key staff coming in to help us ensure the safety and well being, cleaning and feeding of all our animals," a Facebook post said.
"We value our staff and it has been heart-wrenching to stand down some staff.
"Thank you for all your support and we look forward to seeing you all back at the zoo soon."
On the same day as Shoalhaven Zoo, Mogo Zoo also announced it would be temporarily closing.
On Tuesday, the Prime Minister announced further measures to expand the shutdown which came into force at midnight on Wednesday.
It included restrictions to the size of weddings and funerals and the closure of beauty salons, tattoo parlours, arcades, play centres, galleries, museums, youth centers, swimming pools and community clubs.
