Scott McArthur, 41, who listed his address as "bushland", pleaded guilty to intentionally causing a fire and being reckless as to its spread in Nowra Local Court on Tuesday, March 17.
Court papers said McArthur started the fire in bushland between Depot Road and Berry Street, just west of the heart of Nowra, between 5.25pm and 5.35pm on Saturday, September 14 and was reckless as to the fire's spread to vegetation in the area.
Emergency services attended the area and extinguished the fire that had spread to approximately 100 square metres.
A crime scene was established, and investigations began, with police arresting McArthur around 8.40am on Sunday, September 15 on Berry Street, Nowra.
Nowra Local Court Magistrate Gabriel Fleming referred the matter to the Nowra District Court on April 27 for sentencing.
The offence now carries a maximum penalty of 21 years' jail.
