Bettina Arndt is a vocal commentator of sorts and her opinions or comments should be judged accordingly.
As humans we at times display the ability to act in a most murderous, inhumane and unfathomable manner when we commit the most heinous of crimes.
The reaction to Arndt's comments is symptomatic of those who fail to acknowledge the ability of individuals to commit such acts.
The Family Law Court operates in a highly emotionally charged environment and as a result of its decision making there have been many unsavoury and tragic outcomes.
Arndt is simply highlighting the difficulties that may result from a perceived unfair decision in family custody issues.
We all have the right to be angry and disgusted and confused as to why individuals behave and react in such a manner.
We as humans are what we are and there will always be those among us with the ability to act in such a uncivilised fashion.
Incidents of this nature will happen again and again but please don`t decry the messenger when they identify the shortcomings in the process.

Know your rights
There are many low-middle income earners in our community who have not had a pay rise in over three years and yet utilities, rent, health insurance and other living costs continue to rise.
The Reserve Bank, economists and even conservative politicians are saying we need wage growth to stimulate the economy.
Yet again we have seen large companies such as Target, Coles, Woolies and of course the big end of town restaurants and small hospitality businesses admitting to underpayments of often millions of dollars over several years of staff wages. Many would call this out as wage theft. Often it is the low paid workers who have been underpaid for several years.
Now we have federal cabinet ministers, conservative politicians and commentators calling for superannuation to not increase to 12.5 per cent, stating that workers would prefer a wage rise instead. Through the education of workers, the support of the union movement and legislation we need to ensure that workers receive a decent pay rise and that superannuation is gradually increased as promised.
Knowledge of working rights and conditions will help to stop some of the "wage theft". Without this we risk a group who will be the "working poor" and unable to adequately fund their own retirement and must rely on the aged pension. It is not one or the other, decent wages and superannuation are two ways to achieve worker empowerment and dignity.

Overpass is better
I live in Lake Conjola now before that I lived in Tomerong. A roundabout on the highway sounds like a good idea but a lot of people don't know how to use roundabouts. It'll be a bottleneck just the same as it is now and just as dangerous in my books. I reckon an overhead bridge when entering Tomerong from the south or heading north from Tomerong or St Georges Basin area would be better.

State should manage lake
Lake Conjola is clearly beyond the management capabilities of Shoalhaven City Council and council staff. The asset should be managed by the state government along with Lake Cattai, Tuggerah, Lake Illawarra, etc. Clearly politics is damaging habitat, environment and tourism.
