IT wasn't the fairytale AFLW debut that West Coast fans were hoping for, but the Eagles, featuring Nowra's Maddy Collier, were gallant in defeat against an experienced Collingwood outfit at Victoria Park on Sunday.

West Coast was strong from the outset, dominating the play for much of the opening quarter at the Magpies' traditional home ground.
Despite having nine unanswered inside 50s, the Eagles could only register one major and went into the first break up 1.2-8 to 0.0-0.

As a result, the match-hardened Pies seized control of the contest in the second term and never looked back, outscoring the hosts 38-3 over the next three terms, to run away with a 27-point win.
"It was out third ever game together," Eagles coach Luke Dwyer said.

"There was a lot to like ... but we probably fell a little bit short in some of the contests."
West Coast will now shift their attentions to hosting their first derby against crosstown rival Fremantle at Optus Stadium at 7.10pm (local time) on Saturday night.
