Sailing at Nowra Community Sailing Club has been suspended for the last few weeks of fires and before sailing on Saturday we held a minute's silence in memory of the brave firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice this summer.

Conditions on Saturday afternoon were sort of gusty from the south-west though there were major shifts as the wind blowing over the land was chopped about by the uneven surface before it reached the river.
Strength was anything from drift to gusts of 12 to15 knots, so the field was set for challenging sailing for heat nine of the Kel Campbell Point Score and heat seven of the Bomaderry Bowling Club Championship
Wayne Norris won the downwind start from Michael Fairbairn sailing his Finn, with Bill Jauncey, Cameron Phelps and Steve Phelps just behind.
Initially the Finn had trouble getting away from the four Spirals but by the end of the first lap he began to clear out.
Wayne just led the Spirals from Bill, Steve and Cameron.
The third lap was great for Wayne who opened a good lead on Bill who was also passed by Steve.
This order continued for the next few laps but on the sixth Bill managed a blinder to pass Steve and almost catch Wayne, but then had his "senior's moment" and following Michael's finish he also headed for shore, not realising he still had a lap to go as the Finn had lapped the Spirals!
Bill managed a blinder to pass Steve and almost catch Wayne, but then had his "senior's moment" ...
By the time Wayne finished Michael was almost derigged.
Steve was a minute behind Wayne and Bill 45 seconds behind him.
Cameron obviously decided to boost his handicap, being a few minutes behind Bill.
It was no surprise Michael easily took heat five of the Bomaderry Bowling Club Championship, and managed it by over two minutes on corrected time from Wayne, then Steve another minute back and Bill less than a minute behind Steve and ruing his senior's moment!
Heat seven of the Kel Campbell Point Score was much closer with Steve winning it by just one second from Michael.
Wayne was one and a half minutes back but just 17 seconds ahead of Bill.
Cameron boosted his handicap by the maximum possible.
This Saturday Bill will be competing in the Spiral Nationals at Saratoga while heat 10 of the Kel Campbell Point Score and heat eight of the Bomaderry Bowling Club Championship is scheduled for the river.
