Captain Leif Maxfield is the Commander of the Task Force operating off Eden and Victoria to provide relief from the bushfire crisis impacting Victoria and the south coast.

The Task Force includes HMAS Choules and MV Sycamore, which have primarily focused on the evacuation and provision of Mallacoota and East Gippsland, and Australia's largest Navy vessel the HMAS Adelaide now anchored in Eden.

Captain Maxfield said since arriving in Twofold Bay early on Monday, a number of personnel had been deployed by boat and air.

"Embarked personnel moved ashore via boat and air to engage with local state authorities in Eden and Towamba," Captain Maxfield said.

"Our people also met with the Local Emergency Operations Controller for the Bega shire to build our understanding of access points and isolated areas in need of further investigations."

Wonboyn and Towamba are among the most isolated areas after losing power and having road access cut by the fires.

Captain Maxfield said HMAS Adelaide had initially been able to deliver supplies of water and was assessing options to do so in significantly larger quantities if need.

Working with local authorities they have also been able to re-establish communication with Wonboyn.

"We've also been preparing supplies of fuel for generators and we have technicians ready to go ashore to effect some repairs to local equipment," he said.

The crew are also working to shore up water supplies along the South Coast.

"We have also been coordinating a CH47 helicopter from Sale today as it takes state officials to Brogo Reservoir and Cochrane Lake for water purification testing," Captain Maxfield said.

With conditions expected to warm up again on Friday with winds increasing, Captain Maxfield said the HMAS Adelaide was ready to provide strong support in days to come.

"HMAS Adelaide brings a significant capability to the response as both a command platform to coordinate maritime efforts and as a logistics platform," he said.

"We have brought over 300 tonnes of stores and vehicles as well as specialist medical personnel and we are positioned to project those resources ashore via sea or air as required in the coming days in partnership with state authorities."

Helicopter crews have been flying a number of supply missions along the coast with aid to Wonboyn, Towamba and supplies flown in for evacuees in Bega on Tuesday.
