NSW Rural Fire Service district officer Brad Collins said crews were busy preparing for the impact, with the southerly expected to sweep through and reach the northern end of the fireground at 9pm.
"Although we expect the southerly late in the day, extreme heat and north easterly and north westerly winds will be present all day," he said.
"Winds today will test the entire fire ground."
Crews will be patrolling through the day, particularly near Burrier Road, Palmer Road and Sussex, which are expected to be hit hardest.
They will also be patrolling to the north and west of the Shoalhaven River, where the fire has spotted over.
"We worked aggressively on those spots yesterday, and at the moment we're quite comfortable with how they are today," Mr Collins said.
Bendalong Road and Lake Conjola Entrance Road have been cleared of trees and are open to local traffic only.
RFS crews are also going to set up information points at the North Nowra shops at 10am, Cambewarra Village at 11.30am, Bomaderry shops at 1pm and Stockland Nowra at 2.30pm. Residents can attend and ask questions of fire crews.
