Along with fellow student Thomas Shewan, who also made the Honour Roll, the Shoalhaven High School student had nothing to worry about however.
She's scored herself a place on the 2019 HSC Honour Roll, with a Band 6 in Advanced English. Sophie also received a Band 5 in Society and Culture, Band 4 in Earth and Environmental Science, Extension Band 3 in Extension English and a Band 3 in Engineering.
She said her results were a combination of hard work, and a fantastic teacher.
"I tried as best as I could, especially over the last two years with a lot of study," she said.
"I also had an amazing English teacher, Mr Harvey. He pushed me on and made sure I was performing at my best. It was a gift."
Sophie will be heading to the University of Wollongong next year to study a Bachelor of International Studies.
She hopes to follow her passion and work in Third World aid.
In the meantime, she'll be enjoying a summer break, relaxing and working at the Sussex Inlet Cinema.
Another Sussex Inlet local, Thomas received 92 in Earth and Environmental Science, 91 in Biology, 87 in Advanced English, 81 in Chemistry, and 77 for Maths Advanced.
With an ATAR of 90.75, Thomas is already enrolled in a Bachelor of Environmental Science on a Dean's Scholar at the University of Wollongong.
He thanked a very special teacher for fostering his interest in the field.
"Miss Hargraves who teaches Earth and Environmental Science is so passionate about it and her passion is what going me into this uni course," he said.
"She really helped me, and I strived to get a Band 6 because she hasn't had a student with one in this subject for a while so I really wanted to get there."
Thomas plans to spend the summer holidays working at Cudmirrah Cafe, before making the move to Wollongong next year.
