Ground crews actively fought the fire all day, RFS incident controller Mark Williams said.
The area had a "different weather system so it didn't get the wind change until later".
Meanwhile, fire weather was "significant" in the morning across the rest of the 80,000-hectare fireground. Crews were in "property protection mode".
But a southerly wind change came through at about 11am which "settled down" the fire.
Mr Williams said firefighters conducted backburns for most of the day.
He said Wednesday's weather offered calmer conditions that allowed firies to get on the front foot.
Firefighters would undertake tactical backburning around properties, "ramp up" containment strategies, open up fire trails to prepare for any future expansion of the fire.
"We're going to get OK weather over the next few days, so we're going to capitalise on that because conditions will deteriorate at some point," Mr Williams said.
On Wednesday morning, the fire was out of control and at advice alert level, Fires Near Me reported.
