The Historical Walk Interpretive Signage Project is underway with the first of a number of signs being installed.
In October last year, Shoalhaven City Council received a Heritage Activation Grant from the NSW Government for the project, initiated by Nowra CBD Revitalisation Committee in collaboration with Shoalhaven Historical Society.
Signs for this project are now ready to be installed, with installation starting last Thursday and Friday, December 5-6.
The project incorporates four connected precincts of the Nowra CBD.
The start of each precinct will be marked by a large information sign that communicates some of Nowra's history, relevant to that precinct.

Significant buildings and sites in each precinct will be identified by small plaques.
To complement the plaques and signs, council will continue to work with the NSW Government on a possible web app that includes a digital interactive map/guide.
In the meantime, a hard-copy map and guide to support the walk will be released.
Initially, this will be available from Visitor Services at Shoalhaven Entertainment Centre, Shoalhaven Historical Society and on council's website.

"Thanks to the individual members, who championed the project, the stories told are inspired by the historic publications of these members," she said.
"Many thanks also go out to the owners and caretakers of the historical items for their support of this project; as well as the State Government and their Heritage Near Me Team - without the local support and the grant funding, this project may never have become a reality."
To recognise these efforts and to officially open the walk, an 'opening event' will be held in early 2020, with further information on this event to follow.
Nowra CBD Revitalisation Committee Chairperson, James Caldwell, said he hopes the upgraded historical walk will give Shoalhaven visitors and residents a great experience.
"The new historical signage will offer the community an opportunity to travel back through time, learn something new about Nowra and explore the CBD in a different way," he said.
"The signs respond to the colourful nature of our CBD whilst providing insight into times gone by. They are a wonderful asset for the community, and I encourage anyone on their next visit to Nowra to take the walk.
"We're pleased to see this project come to fruition and are very excited to bring forth some of Nowra's lesser known history."
