Six small winged planes and three helicopters rushed to support firefighters on the ground at the Maloneys Beach fire which sparked at about 3.40pm on Monday, December 9.

Rural Fire Service spokesman Marty Webster said the fire started in an awkward spot.
"Fortunately, aircraft for disposal pulled away from the Currowan fire to put it out," Mr Webster said.
"It was in an awkward spot and in a dry environment - in these conditions any fire has potential."
Mr Webster said crews would continue to patrol the area today and that fire activity is visible from air.
Crews from Batemans Bay and Long Beach brigades were among first to respond to the blaze on a headland.
Meanwhile, the Currowan bushfire has been burning for two weeks and fire crews are under increasing pressure.
They have been trying to contain the massive fire to the area north of Durras Drive, to prevent it spreading to Maloneys Beach and Long Beach, and then into Surfside.
The fire has consumed more than 80,000 hectares.
