Members of the North Nowra Girl Guides love to help people in need, which is what they recently did. The group members have been collecting non-perishable items for Salt Ministries' Mobile Response Vehicle which delivers food to homeless people and those living rough in the Shoalhaven. The girls have been collecting food as part of their Christmas Service Badge. "Well done girls for giving back to the community," Salt's Community Pastor Ash Hudson said. Girl Guide Leader Julie McQuarters (Wombat ) said she was proud of the girls. "We think it's important for us to help those in our community, especially over the Christmas period while a lot of the centres the homeless rely on are closed," the girl guide leader said. The aim of the appeal was to help give homeless people something to look forward to over Christmas. The shelter, located in Kinghorne Street across from the Nowra Police Station, last year hosted what was a marvellous Christmas dinner and want to do something similar this year. Donations could be used to buy people a present to open on Christmas day. The money could even be used for simple but important things like freshening up the shelter's bed linen.People can also donate Christmas treats like chips, lollies, soft drinks, tin hams and other nice festive items.
