Transport for NSW is carrying out work on Moss Vale Road from 9am to 3pm starting from last Monday, December 2, through to Thursday, December 5 and again next week, Monday to Wednesday, December 9-11, weather permitting.
The South Coast Register has been contacted by residents concerned what would happen if a fire broke out in the area during the planned roadwork.
Fair concerns as fires rage in southern parts of the Shoalhaven and on the Southern Highlands.
Transport for NSW Regional Director Southern, Sam Knight said the organisation is in regular contact with the Rural Fire Service regarding the work on Cambewarra Mountain and had delayed using a large crane on site until fire risks subsided.

In the event of an emergency, Transport for NSW could reopen the road within 10 minutes to ensure access for local communities.
- Transport for NSW Regional Director Southern, Sam Knight.
"We are in contact with the RFS prior to starting work each day to confirm the activities that can be safely undertaken," Ms Knight said.
"We have delayed using the large crane until fire risks have subsided.
"Work is continuing with smaller machinery and crews are endeavouring to complete the work it as quickly as possible."
He said in the event of an emergency, Transport for NSW could reopen the road within 10 minutes to ensure access for local communities.
"We will update the community about any changes to the work via electronic message boards at this location," he said.
The work includes essential tree removal to complete recent work on slope repairs and rock fall prevention on Moss Vale Road.
Slope stabilisation work carried out in August and September, also required the removal of a number of large trees, which must be done in day shifts for worker safety.
Once tree removal is completed the final stages of slope stabilisation work can get underway, including tightening rock fall mesh and rock bolts which will reduce the severity of rock falls onto Moss Vale Road.
Moss Vale Road will be closed in both directions during the work and detours will be in place for light vehicles via Tourist Road and Kangaroo Valley Road, adding 15 minutes to travel times.
Essential maintenance work will also be carried out on Moss Vale Road from Barfield Road to Kangaroo Valley Road on Cambewarra Mountain, with the road closed for one night on Sunday, December 15 between 8pm and 4am, weather permitting.
Detours will be in place for light vehicles via the Princes Highway and Kangaroo Valley Road, adding 20 minutes to travel times.
Transport for NSW thanks the community for their patience during this essential slope stabilisation work.
