Where there's smoke, there's fire

Another week, another run of hazy, smoky days. The difference this time is they're being caused by a big fire much closer to home. Firefighters have been working feverishly to contain a massive blaze at Currowan, west of Kioala-Bawley Point. The challenge has been to strengthen containment lines and conduct backburning before the fire can leap from the inaccessible country in which it's burning and menace coastal settlements. Our firefighters have also been busy further afield, fighting the huge blazes on the north coast.
