Thomas Andrew O'Donnell, 29, was facing a number of firearm-related charges.
He had previously pleaded guilty to firing a firearm in a public place, using an unauthorised firearm, not keeping a firearm safely and possessing ammunition without a licence.
The charges stemmed from an incident at Myola on April 9.
Police said between 5.30pm and 5.52pm O'Donnell had a Ruger 'American' model .22 calibre rifle in bushland in the Jervis Bay National Park, about a kilometre north of the Myola boat ramp.
In Nowra Local Court, Magistrate Gabriel Fleming dismissed the charges and under the Mental Health Act and discharged O'Donnell into the care of a doctor for six months.
