Although environment plans to allow a Norwegian company to drill in the the Great Australian Bight have been knocked back, environmentalists across the Shoalhaven aren't happy.
"Although we're happy the decision has been delayed, we were hoping they would be rejected completely," said environment advocate Monica Mudge.
"It's not time to celebrate yet."
Gerringong Surf School owner Rusty Moran was part of the group that organised a paddle-out protest in Kiama earlier this year.
He said he was concerned that specifics about the information Equinor needs to provide in order fro their plan to be approved weren't made public.
"It appears, by shutting out the public, Equinor is being coached in how to get an approval by ticking the right boxes," he said.
"It's quite possible we will be impacted by an oil spill in the next 40 years if this goes ahead."
He said further grass-roots action may be on the cards.
