Fire and Rescue NSW Shoalhaven and Nowra brigades were called to the fire in Halstead Place, Bomaderry around 1.20pm on Thursday, November 7.
Fire and Rescue NSW Shoalhaven station officer Ian Walters said the initial report of a car on fire was upgraded while the brigade was en route to blaze to a garage fire, which was heading towards a home.
Two women and a young baby were able to escape the blaze, while a neighbour attempted to fight the blaze with a hose until fire crews arrived.
Strong winds that were buffeting the area at the time pushed the blaze towards the house but fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze before it was also engulfed.
"The wind was a concern," Mr Walters said.
"The winds certainly made it more difficult for us. The wind was driving the fire in the garage towards the main structure of the house.
"Thankfully we were able to extinguish the blaze before it reached the home and more importantly everyone was safe.
"They were very lucky."
