The hosts at Phillip Oval won the toss and elected to bat first, posting 284 thanks to an impressive 105 from Jason Sangha - with Engelbrecht being dismissed for a duck.
Lance Morris led the way for the visitors with 3/63 from his 17 overs.
In reply, WA claimed first innings points by reaching 347 in their first dig, captain Jake Carder (57) and wicketkeeper Jaron Morgan (54) posting half centuries.
Tom Pinson was the pick of the Comets bowlers with 4/34, as Engelbrecht finished with 0/23 from his eight overs.

In their second innings, the hosts performed much stronger, declaring at 7/363 in the 97th over.
Fellow South Coast product Blake Nikitaras (126) was the catalyst behind this total, with Engelbrecht finishing at 76 not out from 92 deliveries.
With the cherry, Simon Mackin finished with 3/89, to give him five scalps for the match.
The hosts needed early wickets but couldn't find them, as WA claimed the outright win, by reaching 2/303 in the 64th over - Jayden Goodwin smashing 113 of them.
Engelbrecht only bowled two overs in the innings and finished with 0/16.
After drawing their season opener and now losing in round two, Engelbrecht's side will go in search of their first win of the season against NSW Metro at Blacktown International Sports Park, from November 18-21.
