Moves are afoot at Shoalhaven City Council to ban smoking from the Nowra CBD. All but one councillor voted in favour of investigating how such a ban could be implemented and enforced.

But smoking wasn't the issue to come out of the epic five-hour council meeting that got Kiama MP Gareth Ward fuming. It was the motion to back Unions Shoalhaven's campaign for rail electrification that riled Mr Ward, who dismissed it as "uninformed" and "embarrassing".
