Lawrence, 26, who started playing soccer four years ago for the Basin, was diagnosed on September 6. Lawrence reports that "life has slowed down a fair bit".
"I haven't been working since prior to receiving the news that I was sick. I have to live life more cautiously now as I have no immune system. I'm lucky to have had such amazing support from my boss, Kieran and the staff at Wild Ginger."
Lawrence, who faces eight rounds of chemotherapy, has also praised the local community for their support, giving credit to Dale and Shelby at Peak Fitness for their fund-raising efforts and to Basin and Husky Football Clubs, and in particular, Dave Coventry, for the planned Derby Day Fund-raiser.
The Basin-Husky Derby Day will involve four games of football - one ladies, an over 35s and two all-age men's games. The clubs will be running a canteen and BBQ on the day, as well as a raffle, with all proceeds going directly to Lawrence.
Dave Coventry, organiser from St Georges Basin Football Club and teammate of Lawrence is excited about the day and has commended the efforts from volunteers at both Husky and Basin as well as the generous donations already rolling in.
"The uptake from the community has been fantastic. Bakers' Delight at Vincentia has donated bread for the day, South Coast Meats at South Nowra has donated the sausages. The Wood Yard, Cooee Pub, Fulgis Automotive, Meryl McGinn Celebrant and David Reid Homes have also all made generous donations for the day," he said.
"There are a number of ways people can support the fund-raiser for Lawrence: coming down to watch and purchasing from the canteen, buying raffle tickets, or donating goods and services for the day which can either be used in the raffle or in the canteen.
Kick-off is 11am, November 23, at Huskisson Soccer Fields. For further information, visit the St Georges Basin Football Club Facebook Page or contact Rachel on 0467012014.
