DESPITE a large amount of turnover during the off-season, the Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Magpies won their opening match of the campaign, defeating Shoalhaven Ex-Servicemens by 24 runs.

On Saturday at the Berry Sports Complex, David Crapp's Magpies won the toss and chose to bat.
Led by tail-enders Charlie Howard (25) and Tom Fletcher (20 not out), the hosts scored 133 after 44.3 overs.
With the ball, Manning Berry took 4/9 in his first game for the club, while Mat Ganderton (2/25) and Sam Bagnall (2/36) also claimed multiple wickets.

In response, starts from openers Daniel Gleeson (22) and Chris Bramley (11), as well as Blake Munilla (23) set the visitors up for a strong run chase.
But the rest of the Ex-Servos side struggled at the crease, as the side were all out for 109 in the 29th over.
Berry's 10 wickets were shared between Jacob Temple (3/21), Dale Lovatt (3/35), Callum Crapp (2/12) and Daniel Troy (2/16).
