Denise Steer lost her beloved daughter-in-law to cancer five years ago at the age of 42. She'd been fighting the disease for more than eight years.
A plaque organised by Denise in Jedda's now hangs proudly in the Nowra Oncology building.
"I felt I needed to bring awareness to this dreaded disease for all the other people who are going through the same heartbreaking experiences as we had, which is why I started fundraising," Denise said.
Denise reached out to Bay and Basin Cancer Support Group who has since helped her with many fundraising events, and ensured all funds raised go to Nowra Oncology and Karinya Palliative Care.
Tap Your Troubles Away will be the fifth fundraiser Denise has organised at the Bomaderry Bowling Club.
It will be held on Friday, November 8 and will feature the Just Dance Illawarra group of tap and dance ladies who range in age from 40 to 80.
Tickets are $10 and table bookings can be arranged. Contact 4421 2733.
The show will start at 10am. A delicious morning tea will be served, while raffles and lucky door prizes will be up for grabs.
Denise thanked Bomaderry Bowling Club for donating the venue and morning tea, and in particular, Ryan Souter for his assistance in bringing the event together.
She also thanked the many others who've contributed to the fundraiser over the years.
"The wonderful ladies from Just Dance have donated their time and effort in all my fundraising concerts," she said.
"Over the four years I have been able to raise over $12,000 but I would not have been able to do this without the help and generosity of many friends and businesses who have helped and donated their time and or raffle prizes.
"I would also like to thank all those who have supported me by attending these fun and entertaining concerts. I hope to see you all at the next event."
